OPEN EYE GALLERY, Tuesday 2 July, 7.30pm

Liz Lock & Photo MA Graduate Mishka Henner discuss Raw Material, their latest body of work and publication which continues their photographic study of northern English
towns.

Lock & Henner spent six months exploring the landscape and character of
North Staffordshire, a place known worldwide for its fine porcelain and
ceramics industry. Today, much of this industry has moved overseas, leaving
local towns struggling to redefine themselves amidst a derelict landscape.

Using portraiture and landscape studies, Lock & Henner present images that
avoid nostalgia, alluding instead to the uncertainty, role-play and fantasy
involved in the post-industrial search for identity and meaning.

Signed copies of the book will be available at this event.

A journal kept by Lock & Henner during the course of the project can be
found at http://placespaceidentity.blogspot.com

Commissioned by Arts Council England West Midlands.
